Our Achievements

1960s
Wellbeing of Women funded research investigating the viability of  aepidural anaesthesia and by the end of the sixties it had become a regular part of baby delivery.

1970s
Researchers funded by Wellbeing of Women developed new ways of monitoring the fetus during pregnancy. This was the decade that pioneered IVF and fetal monitoring.

1980s
Wellbeing of Women funded researchers to investigate whether a specific gene controlled fetal growth and their insights helped in the development of new fetal screening techniques.

1990s
In the nineties, research work funded by Wellbeing of Women discovered that ultrasound could be used to detect fetal abnormalities in early pregnancy and contributed to pre-natal screening being extended to Downs Syndrome.

2000s
Our Elective Student Bursary Grant programme has encouraged hundreds of young midwives and doctors to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynaecological health. Many of whom have contributed to the development of midwife-led birth centres and advances in fetal surgery.
