What We Do

We are often asked, 'What makes Wellbeing of Women special?'
There are many answers to this question - unlike any other charity we fund right across the speciality of obstetrics and gynaecology, and support projects from basic science through to clinical research.  We support obstetricians and gynaecologists at all levels of their career, from their elective project when they are training, to their first steps in research when they may undertake a Research Training Fellowship or Entry Level Scholarship, to the full project grants we award to established researchers.  And we have been doing this for over 40 years.

We are proud of the reputation we have built up over this time.  Our partnership with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists contributes to our credibility, but equally important is our membership of the Association of Medical Research Charities, the AMRC.  This organisation was established in 1987 and now has 114 member charities which contribute approximately £800 million annually to medical research - over 90% of available funding from the sector. It may suprise you to know that approximately one third of all public expenditure on medical and health research in the UK comes from medical research charities like Wellbeing of Women.

To be a member of the AMRC a charity must show that they use best practice in the allocation of money from research grants.  A crucial part of this is peer review and in 2006 we were awarded a Certificate of Best Practice in Medical Health Peer Review by the AMRC.

We make four types of award:
Project Grants
Research Training Fellowships
Entry Level Scholarships
Bursaries

We also provide health information for women
In the form of publications: 'What Every Woman Should Know About her Body', 'Gynaecolocical Cancers'
At events bringing together our experts and the public each year, with a range of seminars, lectures and question and answer sessions.
